How our automated video redaction helped the NHS
The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust
They are an NHS trust which aims to provide high-quality care, improve patient outcomes and deliver comprehensive healthcare to local communities. Rysz Detko, Patient Services Manager, looks after the CCTV at Lancaster, which spans 3 different hospital sites.
The Need
Rysz needed a video redaction solution for CCTV requests related to health and safety, or managerial reasons. One example request was a significant internal incident involving multiple individuals, where certain people needed to be redacted from the video for organisational presentation.
Despite it being the first time Rysz encountered such a request for footage, he definitely saw a regular need for the solution in the future. Redacting sensitive information from CCTV footage from a hospital environment is essential for GDPR, HIPAA and patient/practitioner privacy.
The Solution
From a user perspective, the sign-up process was simple and hassle-free. Despite being new to redaction tools, Rhyz and his team found our solution intuitive and easy to use. The organisation's CCTV system lacked redaction capabilities, and external repair firms could not guide them.
We provided a cost-effective solution without unnecessary long-term contracts, which other firms proposed.
Overcoming the Trust’s CCTV system's protection to convert it to mp4 format posed an initial challenge, but our team helped with the necessary changes.
Secure Redact is tailorable and cloud-based, unlike other alternatives. Rysz said this was a positive factor for the Trust, which needed to partner with a third party that was security compliant with the NHS’ strict security guides.
The Response
“It gave me exactly what we needed for what was quite a critical situation.”
“Excellent service…very timely, spot on and Dillan and the team knew what they were talking about.”
“There was nothing in my mind that would need improving, it was fairly straightforward.”
