How to upload a video to Secure Redact

Secure Redact offers a quick and easy way to redact personal data from videos, including faces, tattoos, license plates, vehicles, etc. You may have different types of video that need redaction for different purposes, e.g. for compliance, video analytics, and completing a DSAR.

Regardless of what you need the service for, Secure Redact has you covered! CCTV, body worn footage, live streams, and more can be quickly and efficiently redacted with our top quality video redaction software.

Once you have signed up for a free trial or membership, you are able to start redacting right away!

How do you redact a video?

The first step is uploading it to the platform. You can upload any length of video in these formats: 'mp4', 'mov', 'avi', 'webm', 'wmv' and 'mpeg'.

  1. Start by pressing the “upload video” button. You can also press the “+” button at the bottom right-hand corner of the main page (this stays there throughout the entire app). You will then see an “upload Media” pop-up.

  2. Click on “select media” which will show your documents finder. You can then browse your folders and choose the video (or image) you want to redact. Once you have found the correct file, double click on it.

  3. If you click the settings icon, you can choose what specifically you’d like to redact - i.e. faces and/or license plates. Depending on what kind of video you are redacting, you may need to redact both.

  4. If you have a video capturing a lot of people in both the foreground and background which you need to blur, no need to worry! Secure Redact also gives you the opportunity to include small faces within automatic redaction. This means Secure Redact will capture even the smaller faces in the background of your video.

  5. Once you’re happy and have adjusted any of these settings accordingly, click “upload”. Keep in mind, if there are multiple videos being uploaded one after another, they will be queued in the video list.

Once you have uploaded your video, it will be uploaded to the Secure Redact servers, where it is stored in our Amazon EFS (elastic file system). The video is converted into a high resolution format so that Secure Redact can process the personal data ready for redaction. Then the high resolution video is converted into a low resolution version which is what you see within the app, with the automatically added redaction boxes overlaid onto the faces and number plates.

After a few minutes, you will see your video uploaded onto the Secure Redact platform and ready for you to redact!
